Sermorelin Tablets vs. Injections vs. Nasal Spray: Does Oral Sermorelin Work?

Human studies of sermorelin-type peptides used injections, IV or nasal spray. None tested a tablet. What the nasal data show, and what each form costs.

Written by David ChenClinical Evidence & Regulatory Editor

Nobody knows, because no one has published a human study of sermorelin taken by mouth. The human studies of sermorelin-type peptides used an injection, an IV or a nasal spray, and the nasal route needed far higher doses for a weaker effect1. At all 4 sellers below, the oral form costs less per month than the injection.

Do sermorelin tablets work as well as injections?

There is no evidence either way. The question is whether enough intact sermorelin reaches the blood from a tablet or a troche. That has never been measured in people.

Where to buy

HealthRX

$179/mo

Sermorelin at $179 a month on a plan that renews until you cancel, with longer plans priced on the same page.

If you are drug tested, read this first: These are banned in tested sport, at all times — and a prescription does not change that. Check the compound.

What the data do show is that route matters a lot even among the routes that were tested. Moving from an IV to an injection under the skin already cut the effect: it took a tenfold higher dose to release a similar amount of growth hormone1.

Is there any human study of oral or sublingual sermorelin?

No. A PubMed search on October 9, 2026, for sermorelin with oral, sublingual, tablet, buccal or troche returned eight papers. None tested sermorelin taken by mouth in people.

Sermorelin is a peptide, and digestive enzymes break peptides apart. Oral peptide drugs exist, but they are built for it — the Wegovy pill, for example, contains an absorption enhancer. See how oral semaglutide works. A compounded sermorelin tablet has no published data showing it solves that problem.

How does nasal sermorelin compare?

It works, but weakly. In a 1986 study, men received a sermorelin-like peptide (one amino acid different) by IV, injection or nasal spray1:

Same peptide, three routes

RouteDose needed, vs. IVGrowth hormone released
IVBaselineBaseline
Injection under the skinAbout 10 times higherSimilar to IV
Nasal sprayAbout 30 times higherAbout one fifth of IV
Tablet or trocheNever testedUnknown
Vance et al., 1986 — [Nle27]GHRH(1-29)-NH2, which differs from sermorelin by one amino acid. No tablet or troche was tested.

An earlier study of the longer natural hormone found the same pattern: after the same dose, blood levels were about 60 times lower by injection and about 500 times lower by nasal spray than by IV2.

Lower price does not mean better value here. The milligram amounts differ by form, and only the injection has human data behind it. On our sermorelin board, the lowest plain monthly price for sermorelin is $99 (CoreAge Rx and Embody). The sermorelin cost page compares what each seller charges month to month.

Which form do doctors usually prescribe, and why?

The injection, because it is the form with evidence. Sermorelin's only FDA approval, Geref, was an injection3, and its trials used a nightly injection under the skin. Our sermorelin dosage article covers the doses those trials used, and the sermorelin calculator converts a prescribed dose into a syringe volume.

Sermorelin can be prescribed and compounded for an individual patient. There is no FDA-approved sermorelin on the market: both Geref applications are listed as discontinued3. That means every sermorelin sold today, in any form, is compounded and not FDA-reviewed. Is sermorelin safe? covers what is known about side effects, and sermorelin before and after covers what to expect. For the compound itself, see the sermorelin compound page.

Frequently asked questions

Do sermorelin tablets work?

No one has published a human study of sermorelin taken by mouth, so there is no evidence that tablets or troches raise growth hormone. The human studies used an injection, an IV or a nasal spray.

Is nasal sermorelin as good as the injection?

In a 1986 study of a sermorelin-like peptide, a nasal dose 30 times the IV dose released about one fifth as much growth hormone. An injection under the skin needed about 10 times the IV dose for a similar response.

Are sermorelin tablets cheaper than injections?

At all 4 sellers we compared, the oral form costs less per month. The lowest plain monthly price for sermorelin on our board is $99.
