GHK-Cu Before and After: What Injections and Creams Can (and Can't) Change

Two small human trials tested GHK-Cu on skin; neither beat its comparator. Injected GHK-Cu has no human before-and-after data. What to expect and what it costs.

Written by David ChenClinical Evidence & Regulatory Editor

Expect less than the photos suggest. Only two controlled human trials have tested GHK-Cu, both on skin, and neither found it beat its comparator on the trial's main measure12. Injected GHK-Cu has no controlled human before-and-after data at all. On our GHK-Cu board, the lowest plain monthly price is $79.

What changes do people report with GHK-Cu, and by when?

People describe firmer skin, fewer fine lines, faster healing and thicker hair, usually over weeks to a few months. Those reports come from sellers, forums and social media, not from trials.

Where to buy

Live Vital

$297 / 10 wks (about $129/mo) (10-week protocol)

Its $99/mo GHK-Cu figure is a $297 ten-week protocol divided by three — about $129 for a real month.

The one trial that tracked skin over time checked at 12 weeks. Patients used a skin regimen with or without GHK-Cu after laser resurfacing. Both groups improved, and blinded raters found no difference between them2. So a before-and-after change at three months is real, but in that trial it was not caused by the GHK-Cu.

What did the topical GHK-Cu trials actually measure?

Every controlled human GHK-Cu trial

Venous ulcers (1992)Laser-resurfaced skin (2006)
People86 completed13 completed
GHK-Cu product0.4% creamSkin-care products with GHK-Cu
Compared withPlacebo cream and silver sulfadiazineThe same regimen without GHK-Cu
Main resultNo better than placebo; silver sulfadiazine shrank ulcers moreNo difference in redness, wrinkles or skin quality
Anything positive?NoPatients rated their skin higher (P = .04)
Both trials used GHK-Cu on the skin. No controlled human trial has tested injected GHK-Cu.

The 2006 trial had one positive result: patients using GHK-Cu rated their own skin quality higher on a questionnaire (P = .04)2. The objective measures did not agree with them. A 2025 review of GHK as an anti-wrinkle ingredient notes "a surprising absence of clinical studies" and explains one reason: GHK-Cu is water-loving and has trouble getting through the skin's outer layer without a special delivery method3.

Is there any before-and-after evidence for injected GHK-Cu?

No. Neither human trial used an injection. A 2026 primer for orthopedic and sports-medicine doctors says it plainly: GHK-Cu "showed promise in wound healing and anti-inflammatory effects, but no clinical data support its use for musculoskeletal conditions"4. The rest of the injection evidence comes from animals and cell cultures. Our full evidence review lists those studies.

Why do GHK-Cu photos look so dramatic?

Because almost nothing in a before-and-after photo is controlled. Lighting, camera angle, makeup, hydration and time of day all change how skin looks. Many users also start a retinoid, sunscreen or a new routine at the same time. And skin often improves on its own after a procedure, as both arms of the 2006 trial did2. Without a comparison group, a photo cannot show which part of the change came from GHK-Cu.

What side effects show up?

The two trials were small and were not built to measure safety. For injections, FDA's own safety-risk page notes possible immune reactions linked to aggregation and peptide impurities, and states: "There are limited data in humans to inform safety-related considerations"5. Our GHK-Cu side effects article covers injection-site reactions and copper.

What does GHK-Cu cost per month from the sellers we track?

Most of the GHK-Cu we track is a skin or scalp product, not an injection.

Prices from the record behind our boards. Product type as each seller describes it.

Only 9 of the 21 sellers on our GHK-Cu board publish one plain monthly rate. The rest show a "from" price, a per-vial price or no price. If you are prescribed a vial, the GHK-Cu calculator converts a dose into a syringe volume; our GHK-Cu dosage article covers what doses were studied.

It sits in a gray zone. There is no FDA-approved GHK-Cu drug. FDA's safety-risk page now lists injectable GHK-Cu among substances whose nominations were withdrawn, rather than in its Category 2 table of significant safety risks5. That is a procedural change, not a finding that it is safe, and it does not put GHK-Cu on the list of substances a 503A pharmacy may use. Our FDA compounding status page tracks the peptide reviews. FDA's listing names the injectable form specifically; topical GHK-Cu is treated separately.

GHK-Cu also shows up in blends — see what the GLOW peptide blend contains, or start at the GHK-Cu compound page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does GHK-Cu take to show results?

The one trial that tracked skin over time checked at 12 weeks. Skin improved in both groups, with and without GHK-Cu, and blinded raters found no difference between them.

Do GHK-Cu injections work better than creams?

No one has tested that in people. Both controlled human trials used GHK-Cu on the skin, and there is no controlled human trial of injected GHK-Cu.

How much does GHK-Cu cost?

The lowest plain monthly price on our GHK-Cu board is $79. Other sellers show "from" prices, price per vial or no price at all.
